Recent Announcements

  • The Assessment Section is offering a two-part series of virtual trainings for classroom teachers of English language
    arts/literacy (ELA/L) and/or mathematics within the Hawai‘i Department of Education (HIDOE).
    Participants will learn about the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments, the newly launched Tools
    for Teachers (which incorporates the Digital Library), and the AIRWays Reporting system. The online registration form for these workshops may be accessed here or by clicking the training button on the home page at alohahsap.org. The registration deadline is Friday, May 29th. Full information about the training can be found in the May 8th DOE memo here.

  • Registration is now open for the 2020-21 Hawaii Common Core Item Authoring Training. Please click the button on the right-hand side of the Smarter Balanced home page to access the online registration form, or click here to access the form directly.   • All federally-mandated assessments are officially canceled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The U.S. Department of Education has approved the Hawaii Department of Education’s request for a waiver for flexibility regarding assessment and accountability requirements pursuant to section 8401(b) of the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965. Students who have already completed an assessment will have the results populated in the Online Reporting System. Family Reports for completed assessments will not be printed and shipped to schools, however, Individual Student Reports may be printed from the ORS and sent to parents if a report is requested. Results from incomplete assessments will not appear in the ORS.

  • Calling all HIDOE educators! The Assessment Section will be offering several teacher training workshops and item review committees this summer, either remotely or in person. Please check the portal regularly for information regarding these events, including registration. You can also sign up to be notified when new announcements are posted: click on the “Register for email updates” link at the top right of this portal homepage and subscribe to the “Announcement” option. We hope to work with you this summer!

  • Due to the planned cancellation of statewide summative testing for SY 2019-2020, schools will not be required to enter a Non-Participation Code in TIDE for non-tested students this spring. For this reason, the Discrepant Records (DRS) function in TIDE will not be opened this year. The TIDE DRS function allows schools to identify which students were not tested or did not have a Non-Participation Code entered in TIDE. This requirement will not be in place this year due to the COVID-19-related school closures. Please contact the HIDOE Assessment Section at hsa@k12.hi.us for additional information and/or questions.
