  • Hawaii is participating in a pilot test to auto-score short response (1- and 2-point items) on the Smarter Balanced Interim tests. When your students take the Smarter Balanced Interims, some of the ELA and math items will be auto-scored and you will be able to review, and change if necessary, the scoring of those items in AIRWays Reporting using the same procedures you currently use to review auto-scoring of responses to full writes on the ELA Performance tasks. On December 10, we will send out a link to a survey asking about your experience with auto-scoring short-response items. Specifically, we will be asking about whether you think condition codes and scores were assigned accurately and whether you attempted to change any item’s scores.

  • Smarter Balanced has determined that a Grade 8 mathematics item on the Spring 2018 summative assessment was improperly calibrated and the score given to some students may have been too low. Students who received the item have had their tests rescored and 135 Grade 8 students’ mathematics proficiency status were affected. These students will have their Family Reports reprinted and sent to schools where the affected students were tested to be distributed in a manner consistent with previous reports.
