The Smarter Balanced-Revised English Language Arts/literacy final blueprint describes the content of the ELA summative assessment (as well as the Interim Comprehensive Assessment) in grade 3-8 and 11, and how that content will be assessed to reflect the depth and breadth of the performance expectations for the Hawaii Common Core Standards.

The Equation Response Editor tool is available for students to preview and practice with outside the testing environment.

This video describes the Hawai'i Authoring Program, which is a professional development opportunity that supports educators in building their assessment literacy. Through the Hawai'i Authoring Program, educators learn how to write assessment items as well as instructional resources aligned to Common Core Standards.

The Hawaii DOE Testing website provides updates and information on statewide assessments. Employees with access to the Hawaii DOE Intranet may also sign in and access the Assessment and Accountability page.

The Parent Information Booklet (PIB) includes information for the grades 3–8 and 11 Smarter Balanced ELA/Literacy and Mathematics Assessments and the grades 5 and 8 Hawaii State Science (NGSS) Assessments. The number of English and translated PIBs provided to each school is based on the language spoken at home as indicated in Infinite Campus.

This Parent Information Booklet (PIB) in English is also available in 14 languages.

Smarter Balanced and HSA Science Parent Letters 2019–2020 (English) /core/fileparse.php/3410/urlt/2019-2020-Smarter-Balanced-HSA-Science-Parent-Letters-English.docx

Participation and non-participation letters that schools may send to parents along with the Parent Information Booklet about the grades 3-8 and 11 Smarter Balanced ELA/Literacy and Mathematics Assessments and the grades 5 and 8 Hawaii State Science (NGSS) Assessments are available in English and 14 translated languages.

These parent letters are Word documents that can be edited by school level staff members. Edits may include a school’s testing schedule, principal’s signature, and school phone number. If a student is included in two populations, e.g., IDEA-eligible and Home/Hospital Instruction, a customized parent letter can be created by inserting the appropriate text from the parent letter for each of these two populations.
